The need for “real investment” to be made into the nursing workforce around the world will be the call to action from this year’s International Nurses’ Day, organisers have said.
The global celebration of the nursing profession is held annually on 12 May – the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale – and is led by the International Council of Nurses (ICN).(Visit Store:https://hipmodes.com/)

Howard Catton, chief executive of the ICN, told Nursing Times: “The pandemic has shown us only too clearly that we need a real investment in the profession of nursing in order to secure global health. And nurses’ rights, safety and wellbeing must be protected as well.
“The nursing shortage is a serious threat to public health and must be addressed now.”

The ICN will be publishing a report on 12 May which Mr Catton said would lay out “exactly what steps we must all take to ‘invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health’.”
Meanwhile, the Royal College of Nursing will be marking the day with its own campaign titled #BestOfNursing, which will see the college promoting case studies about the positive difference made by nursing staff.

RCN general secretary and chief executive, Pat Cullen, told Nursing Times: “Nurses’ Day, on 12 May 2022, is an opportunity to showcase the amazing work of our members and to say thank you to nursing staff across the UK.

The RCN has recently re-joined the ICN after an absence of almost a decade.
